This is the first side that I did, and I really love it. It looks way better then it did before and I was thinking about maybe doing some limited showing with this horse.
So last night when I was really bored, I started working on a horse that I had etched several years ago. I liked the horse when I first did it, but as time went on, I started to see that the horse was not really realistic. So last night I started etching it again, this time making the pettern look more edgy. The pattern is overo, so I needed to make the edges less smooth and more crazy. This is the first side that I did, and I really love it. It looks way better then it did before and I was thinking about maybe doing some limited showing with this horse. But really don't like that other side. I just looks too bald for this horse. Compared to the other side, it doesn't look right. I have to do a little more work on the hip, it looks really odd. I really think that this side should of had some brown spots left in the hip and barrel areas, but these areas were already etched away. I am going to start another etchy tonight, I know that I will be bored enough. I haven't decided what pattern yet, but I am thinking about doing any appaloosa. I haven't tired one yet with etching, but I am going to try anyways.

Today I was looking online and saw that Rough Riders is having a Mini division in their 2 day show. I really want to send horses, but I am a little nervous about it. I don't know any proxy showers around here and I'm not sure that people are just going to offer to take my horses. I posted an ad on MHSP saying that I was looking for someone to proxy for me or someone to ride with, but I just don't think that it is going to happen. I would LOVE to go to the show myself, because I haven't been to a live show in years and it would give me a chance to show a few of my best friends horses for her, since she does it for me. the show is in Fargo, North Dakota, which is a pretty far drive for the Twin Cities. Plus the mini division is on a Saturday, so I would have to drive out on Friday and either drive back right after the show or drive home on Sunday. And if I drive home on Sunday I have to take me only 2 days for week and use them on the weekend, when the bakery is the busiest. I'm hoping that someone will be willing to proxy for me, and I'm REALLY hoping that it is someone that I have heard of or possible worked with before.
I am still working on the new barn/scene thing. I got 1 hay net finished, I got all the stall pieces made and I started working on some of the detail things for the tackroom. I made a metal hanging saddle pad holder and I am going to start making some portable saddle racks today. I am going to try and make a portable metal saddle stand out of wire. I know how to do it, it's just getting it to look good that might be a problem. I will try and post pics tonight of tomorrow, but I don't have my camera, only my cell phone, which doesn't take good pics. Today was a hard day. I got an email from my best friend's mom saying that she was thinking about me. It's been almost a year since we lost him and it still really hurts. I think about him every day and wish that he was still here. I know that as time passes. it will not hurt as much, but right now, it's really does. I wish that i could fly down and see his family and give his mom a big hug.
I went to High School with Josh. He was my best and only friend there. We did everything together. We met for breakfast, had classes together, ate lunch together and walked home together. 2 months before starting our junior year, his dad got a job in Texas, so his family moved. But we never stopped talking to each other. I called him once a week and we emailed like a million times a week. Josh graduated from high school the same day I did, but I was in Minnesota and he was Texas. It was heartbreaking. It was hard not being able to see him, but we managed to stay amazing friends even from across the country. Not many people around here knew him. He wasn't a friend that came over after school. I had horse back riding and he had football, hockey and track. He was a very busy guy. We told each other about every practice, game and show. Including all the things we missed up on. Like the time he ran for a touchdown. He was like 4 yards from the goal and realized he was heading to the wrong end zone. It was really funny. His coach didn't think so, but I did. After high school, he got a job working at a sports equipment store. He was saving up money to go to school for anything in sports. He wanted to come back up here for school. He said he missed the snow, I said he was crazy. He really wanted to coach high school or college sports teams. It was his dream. I will never forget him. I will never forget the silly little things he used to do. First thing in the morning, as soon as we saw each other, he would yell "GOOOOOOD MORNING LITTLE BUDDY!!!!!!!" (He was taller then me by like 6 inches, so he called me his little buddy) And most mornings I would tell him to go to hell, because I am not a morning person, nor did I enjoy being called his Little Buddy. I'm not that short. I only looked short standing next to him, but everyone who stood next to him looked short. I will never forget the way he would talk about my art. He did it in a horrible rich english person accent. Saying "I say my dear, that has to be the most ghastly painting I have ever seeennnnnnn." Every sentence in this voice had the last letter held for several seconds. And my paintings were always terrible or ghastly or dreadful. But his favorite thing to say about them was " That thing looks like death." Thanks Josh. The worst thing he ever did to me was at a pep fest. The dean was telling us about the new lunch schedule, and Josh raised his hand. The dean called on him in a questioning voice and Josh said : Mr. O, Which Pokemon is the greatest one ever?" The entire room started laughing. The dean was like, what? And Josh said " Kate thinks it's Charmander, but I think it's Rattata. I mean, come on. He can learn Growl. How cool is that!" And of course, the dean had to ask if it was true and why I thought that Charmander was the best. I said " Um, because he hangs out with a turtle, a moving, talking leaf and a rat that shocks people. How freaking cool is that." (I didn't was the word freaking, I used a less tolerated f word) the entire place was laughing and I am turning just about as red as Charmander's tail. Josh thought it was the funniest thing in the world, and I ended up with detention. Again, Thanks Josh. I will always remember the goofy things he did, the intense way he talked about sports and how he could make me laugh at anything. I miss you buddy. RIP Josh <3 I was really bored last night so I decided to make a hay net for a Sm scale scene I am working on. I decided that since I sold the big barn and that I had several other people interested in it that I would make something else. I have been wanting to make a Sm scale race track 2 stall setup and do a 2 stall barn one as well.
I should have started the race one first, it would have been soooo much easier. Race track stalls are all solid walls and the door swing open/closed. It would have been a great one to start with since I didn't have to do bars on the stalls. But, I decided to make a horse show stall setup instead. It will be really cool when Its finished. It will have 2 stalls, 1 will be a normal stall and the other stall will be made into a tack room. I am going to make portable tack holders for it, but they will be permanently attached. But last night I decided that it would be really cool to have a hay net go put inside the stall. Big mistake. I have made them before, but I always made them traditional scale. Stablemate scale is a lot harder. Once I figured out how the far to space the knots apart, it went a little easier. I am going to make another one to put in the tack room, for looks. But I am thinking about making some and selling them online. They look just like the big ones, but they are made out of string instead of nylon rope. I don't know. I will finish this one, get some hay in it and post pics and you can tell me what you think. So, I made a bad decision. After I got the job, I told someone that I would still dog/house for them for the next like 9 days. Big mistake. I have so much to do before I start working, its crazy. I have to go pick up my uniform, and I don't know when I can. I can't go ride, which I really wanted to do because I will not have time to ride because I work during the day and there are lessons in the evening. And to top it off, my car is not working. Can't drive it anywhere. Which really sucks because I can't get it fixed untill after the 30th. Which means that I only have a day and a half to get it fixed before I have to be at work. My father said that he would drive me there and pick me up, but I don't think it is going to work.
....too much going on right now. I was thinking that dog/house sitting would help me relax, but so far, it's not happening. Oh well, hopefully, sometime in the next 2 months Weel, I sold the 6 stall barn today! It very exciting, I didn't think that anyone would want it. I had 2 people interested in it. One person asked if was making another!!!! I am making a race track barn, it will look cool once its finished. But I am very excited that the barn is going to a new home. Yay!!
On a slightly sadder note, I went and hung out with some friends for what I'm pretty sure will be the last time for a long time. I can only hang out with them during the week, and since I will most likely be working during the week, I won't get to see them :( I am really going to miss seeing them. Oh well, I hoping that I will get to see them in about a month or 2, I have been trying to decide for the last week or two which horse will not leaving the show group. It's really hard decision for me, I like all of there horses so much. I know that I don't really have to sell who ever I decide will not be shown, but it's still really hard. I have pretty much narrowed it down to 3 horses. Down Right Talented, Heza Sweet Temptation and Naughty By Nature. I have reasons to get rid of all of them, but I also have reasons to keep them
Down Right Talented has already been proven as both a photo show and live show horse. Although he hasn't placed well in live shows, he is a very consistant placer in photo shows. Especially performance. But, his markings are not really realistic. I was told he is a sabino, but I have never seem a sabino with markings like that before. Heza Sweet Temptation is the first horse I ever painted and send to a live show. He placed, but it was 6th of 6. Not a huge plus for this horse. I have also noticed that his details got filled in quite a bit. The only good thing he really has going for him is that he has never been in a photo show. He could do really well, but I'm just not sure. Naughty By Nature has never been shown before. At all. He was never shown by the previous owner and I haven't shown him yet either. He is really cute, his markings and color are realistic, but he is a really old custom. He was done in the early 90's, so I'm not even sure he is up to par with the other horses out there. I really only need to choose 1 horse, but part of me is thinking that I should choose 2 horses to pull from the string. I have another horse that I am working on right now and I have so many horses that I will be repositioning that I don't really know what to do. Part of me thinks that I should just retire all of my custom horses are get new ones. I don't know. I am going to do some thinking. So, I finally got a job. It took long enough!! you are looking at the newest decorater and baker for Cupcake. (well I hope you not looking at me, cuz that might be sort of creepy) It's a full time job, which is awesome. And the other people there are just as crazy and bad at math as me!! I start April 1st, so I can still do the almost 9 day long dog sitting I said I would do. I really liked being in that bakery, WAY more then the first place I went to. It is open to the customers on 1 side, so they can laugh at you when you do something stupid. Like I did today. I was making cupcake batter and I stopped the huge mixer to add the flour. I didn't think about what I was doing right away, so I started the mixer on medium speed. POOF!!!! Flour mushroom cloud. I got flour all over my pants, shoes, shirt, face and all over everything within a 3 foot area. Atleast me new boss has a sense of humor. He thought it the funny. So did the half a dozen customers eating their breakfast. As I turned the mixer off, I thought "Thank you, thank you...I'll be hinding in the corner trying to get all the flour off of me."
I am really excited to start this job. I know that it is going to take some getting used to, since I haven't been in a realy bakery in several months, but I think it will I just got my results from Show for the Cure. Considering that there was no mini division, I am pleased with my horses. It was a tough show, I knew that going into it. Sweet Impression placed 3rd in both his Quarter Horse and workmanship class. That horse seems to always suprise me. No one else placed, but that's ok. This show has made me change how I pick my shows from now on. I will only send horses to shows with mini divisions. Minis just get over looked too much. Traditional scale horses are bigger, so they grab the judges attention more. It's ok. I know that my little guys will win again some day.
One slightly sad note today. Who Invited You broke a leg, again. It''s the third time she has broken a leg. That resin just has such tiny legs, they are really thin through the cannon area. I am thinking that it might be time to retire Who Invited You from the live show ring. She got a NAN card, which is a huge thing for me since I only have like 15 horses, total. So I might just show her in photo shows and turn her out to the pampered pasture on the shelf to roam for the rest of time. Well, I'm going to bed. I have a slightly early morning tomorrow, I have a working interview and I don't want to be really tired. Wich me luck! Ok, so I took pics of the horses I tried to paint last night. I know the bay horse is missing a leg, and am ear, but I figure broken horses are the best ones to practice on!! Here is the bay. I didn't prep this one, so you can still sort of see the spots under the paint, but who cares. I still need to work on blending the black a little more, but I think its an ok start. This is the chestnut I tried to paint. Don't let the color on your screen fool you. It really looks like poop brown. Not the greatest looking horse I have ever painted, but at least I tried. This horse might just be given a respectful burial outside and then we shall never speak of this horse again. Poor little bugger :( (yes, this horse is missing a leg too) The last horse is another horse that I started a long time ago and never finished. I am going to finish him and sell him. He will be super cheap since I am just starting out and he doesn't have the greatest looking pattern. Show for the Cure is today!!!!! I can't wait to hear how every else did at the show. I know Ashley is going to have some places, that Deckerette (sp?) is just a sexy little model and the lady judges seems to fall to pieces before him ;)
