Although I haven't really been doing much, I have gotten a few things in motion. I have been working on my first donation for the October show, I am cross stitching an Arabian in the surf. I spend about 45 mins on it every night and I hope to be finished with it over the weekend.I want to give myself plenty of time to get it matted and framed. I just have to wait for one of the stores to have their usual amazing sale. After I get that all settled I plan on making some saddle pads to bring with me. I have 2 still on the loom that are finished but need backing. I have another 4 plans that I want to do after those. My tentative plan is to have 10 finished and ready to go for the show. I might give one as a donation for the show but I haven't decided yet.
On the horse front I have been making very slow progress. I currently have 5 horses here that are in various stages of painting. I have been trying to work on them all at the same time which was a really bad idea. Sort of. At first it was fine because they were all in the same stage, prepping. Once I got them all ready to be painted it just got to be too complicated. At first I was only working on 2 at the same time since they were both black or black/white. But then one late night I got this wild idea that I was going to paint one a bay and another a chestnut, with acrylics. Insert face palm.
I try not to do any late night painting because after a certain point I just mentally check out. When I go back to working on them the next morning there tends to be a lot of WTF moments.
Here are the various horses and what the plans are:
Windswept - Turns out the paint was primer and it wasn't coming off. So I decided to prep him myself and pastel him to a nice dapple gray. Then I changed my mind and made him bay and decided he was going to be an Abaco Barb. He has the first couple layers of white but still has a ways to go.
Sahir - Originally painted a black sabino, I stripped him and turned him into a chestnut tobiano. I'm pleased with his base color and added some pastels to him to bring out some of the detail. He has the first layer of white but will most likely be put on the shelf for a while. Not because I don't like him, but because he needs a lot of painting and I want to get some of the other horses out of the way first.
Standing Friesian - He has his coat on and got the detailing done in his mane. tail and feathers. I have sealed him but I keep finding tiny spots where the pewter is showing. I have a feeling that the spray misses a few spots and then the paint get rubbed off. He should be finished soon.
Tiger - I have him painted and I thought finished a while ago. But I decided that his color was too baby puke brown, so I stripped him and started over. This time I went with the horse traditional black leopard. I love how he has turned out so far. He needs a little more blending in his feather and mane/tail.
Devil's Advocate - this poor guy is still hanging in the basement after his final layer of primer. I know that he is going to be a dapple gray, but I haven't had the energy or a big enough chunk of time to get him started. I'm hoping that he will get mostly finished this weekend. Or at the very least get all the pastel work finished on him and then do all the detail work later on.
A few weeks ago I bought Kelly Sealey's Pony Mare, I got the Micro Mini and the Teeny Tiny. I love them both, I have already decided what I am going to do with both of them. The MM mare will be a Canadian horse done to look like the mare I used to work with and the TT will be a Fell pony. Probably a soft black with a few socks and a star.
The most amazing artist ever has been working on like 8 horses for me and she sent me pics of the first 2 that I almost finished.
Albus was done to a BEAUTIFUL dapple gray and Emma was finished as a Sugarbush draft. I can't get over the detail that she puts into horses. I know how hard it is to put good details on the Micros and she does an amazing job. I can't wait to see what the rest of the kids look like.
Here are a few pics of the first 2. Thanks for the pics Angelica!!
